I finally bit the bullet and joined Twitter

I am blogging about the experience (and other stuff) over at ShelleySaid.com … but I just really GOT the whole social media thing and the power of the people. I know it's crazy… most of you probably already get it… but I never did. I blog lots, and get some traffic, but I work hard for that traffic. You are here reading this because of hours and hours and hours of work, surfing the internet, commenting on blogs, adding value when I can, joining communities like IOWA Ave and blog catalog (see my sidebar).

It's all well and good, I've enjoyed the work, so yeah it's been a lot of fun and I have met some COOLEST people! I love jornalling about health issues, and sharing stories and recipes. So today while I was pondering Twitter, I thought,… here we have, more than any other time in the history of HISTORY, an opportunity to really INFLUENCE people from our own little corner of the world. We have the opportunity, through social media, to express our views, and make them understood in places we have only read about before.

shelley twitter imagetwitter is so .. well… random. But isn't it all? The randomness of it is what makes it so exciting, and so much like fate, destiny. If you believe everything happens for a reason, that everyone comes into each others lives for a reason then how do you account for the fact that now you can literally find hundreds, maybe thousands of people a day coming across what you've written through Twitter, Stumble, or Digg.

Is there a way to take that fact (the act that Twitter has 3.5 million members and growing exponentially by the day) and somehow leverage your message so that it gets heard, and shared. Can we help get people the knowledge they need to finally decide to stop eating Big Mac's and start eating food? Can we get them the info they need to rid their bodies of heavy metals and toxins (see that zeolite bottle in the sidebar). Can we get them the iformation they need to help us STOP Codex Alimentarius in it's tracks, to make governments more accountable, and to stop poisoning our food supply, and our water and the air we breathe?

Think about what a difference you could make in this world if you had an audience of people that would really listen?

Feel free to follow me on Twitter. I know that I have to make a difference somehow. I know I have to create, and inspire and share, and help everyone Be Naturally Well.

See you there!

Yes, we CAN make a difference and I believe people are! A lot more people seem aware of things, and while the internet can be used for bad…it’s nice to read about the potential it has for good also!

Well, one hopes that the message of healthy eating and whatnot are getting through, but sometimes I think the folks who need the message the most are the least receptive to hearing it, sigh!

But who knows, right? Hopefully it is doing some good.

However, I probably won’t follow you or anyone else over to Twitter… oh, it sounds like fun, but then again, it also sounds like one more thing to keep me sitting and at the computer, instead of moving and getting things done, LOL!

But then again, I think I am relatively satisfied with being a small blogger. I started out with tons of intent, but the reality is that I can only blog so much. Still, I always hope that my struggles help somebody!

    Good post!

Well, to quote Mr. Obama: YES WE CAN! I think more and more people are waking up and becoming health conscious and environmentally aware. More importantly, they’re realizing there’s a connection there.

I’ve been sitting on the Twitter fence myself. Look forward to reading about your experience at Shelly Said. Maybe it will inspire me to start tweeting too.

This is a great blog. I think if we only touch one life out there, one person, it’s all worth it. Like you, I spend a lot of time doing research, sharing and contributing with others, unless of course my life gets hectic but we keep trying and hope we do reach those who really need the help. Thanks for everything you do.

Well, I guess it doesn’t matter which channel we choose to spread the awareness, as long as it’s genuine intentions, continual efforts and true knowledge.

    Hi Shelley:

I finally replied to your comment on my blog – hi back from a fellow Canadian, it’s great to get in touch. I am also on Twitter, with the username “Seabuckthorn”. I’ll add you to my follow list! I don’t use it very much, but I find a lot of people reallyh appreciate being able to use that method to keep up with me. :D I’m also on MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog as Seabuckthorn – friend me if you like!

    Best wishes for 2009,

    Natalie
